Cold Banana walk the UK

Blog written by Freya Broom, Cold Banana’s Digital Marketing Apprentice.

The month of May was National Walking Month and one of our goals for this year is to take part in more charity work; so, we decided to do a walking based fundraiser to raise money for Dorset Mind.

Originally, we wanted to walk the distance between our two offices in Dubai and Bournemouth, but after doing the maths and realising 6,810 km was slightly too ambitious, we altered it to the distance between the bottom of the UK (Land’s End, Cornwall) to the top (John O’ Groats, Scotland) which is 1,303 km.

Throughout the month we’ve been tracking and documenting our activities on a shared “challenge” on the Strava app. From group walks in lunch breaks, to weekend hikes, our team has been dedicated to reaching our goal. Check out some of the moments we’ve captured along the way!

The reason why we decided to direct our fundraising efforts to Dorset Mind is simple; we want to help our local community – and we understand the impact that poor mental health can have. Dorset Mind provides essential mental health services for those who need it in Dorset.

We have collectively raised over £547.99 so far including Gift Aid! This money could provide over 9 months of weekly mentoring sessions for a young person struggling with low self-esteem and crippling anxiety. This amount can help transform lives.

A word from this year’s Top Walker and Cold Banana Account Manager, Tom Barrett, “This year’s walking challenge has been really enjoyable and has brought a very welcomed competitiveness into the office. I’ve managed to secure first place in terms of distance, with 128 km travelled. Choosing to focus our fundraising effort for Dorset Mind made it even more worthwhile, as they aim to break the negative stigma surrounding mental health and provide essential services to those who need it.”
