The Menopause Pathway

Dorset Mind’s menopause support

At Dorset Mind we are dedicated to improving mental health and well-being through various services and support systems. Our Primary Care Network (PCN), practitioners receive daily tasks to reach out to patients and assess their suitability for our services, ensuring they receive timely and effective mental health support.

Within the North Bournemouth PCN, we also have a dedicated pharmacist specialising in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). This healthcare professional, in collaboration with the GP’s, serves as the first point of contact for women seeking relief from menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms.

Your journey:

Some GPs may have a specialist in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), so, if you are experiencing mild/moderate anxiety and low mood related to perimenopausal symptoms you need to book and attend a consultation with them. You may then be referred for additional support through our Active Monitoring service and subsequently, you will be contacted by one of our practitioners.

Support Through the Menopause Pathway:

Our practitioners use the Menopause Pathway booklet, which is a supportive guide designed by one of our practitioners and National Mind to outline common symptoms and management strategies for women undergoing this transition.

This intervention and program will be tailored specially for you to help alleviate your symptoms and ultimately incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine.

This personalised approach, will help you to successfully implement strategies that

addressed your symptoms and by the end of the sessions, you should see significant improvement in her well-being scores, reflecting your enhanced ability to cope with your symptoms and overall mental health.

Addressing Family Concerns:

We also provide Active Monitoring support for children and young people (CYP) aged 11 to 18. Recognising the interconnectedness of family mental health, the adult Active Monitoring practitioner can refer your child to our CYP Active Monitoring practitioner.

Conclusion:

The extraordinary teamwork and integrated approach between Dorset Mind services and Bournemouth Central PCN services showcases how Dorset Mind is actively supporting the PCN in addressing the mental health needs of their patients.

Our work is helping to break down the stigma surrounding menopause. Just as we work to eliminate mental health stigma, we recognise that there are many misconceptions about menopause that need to be challenged. By fostering a supportive community where women can share their experiences and support one another during this transition, we are empowering them to navigate this significant life change with confidence and solidarity.

Together, we are creating an environment where women feel heard, validated, and connected, ultimately enriching their journey through menopause.

We are proud to champion this collaborative effort, ensuring that our patients receive the support they need in a timely manner, without unnecessary delays.

What a patient said about our menopause pathway.

“The support and advice has been invaluable with helping me get into a better space mentally as well as helped me create healthier habits to help with my physical and mental wellbeing.”
