What led you to Dorset Mind?

I wanted to do my bit to help others and when this opportunity came up, I knew it was right for me!

What are your interests outside of work?

I do a lot of crochet and knitting! I really cannot go a day without sitting in front of the TV (usually watching Grey’s Anatomy for the 5th time) and working on whatever project I currently have in progress. I also have two cats who are my absolute world and I would not get through life without their cuddles.

What is your story in relation to mental health?

Looking back, I think I had anxiety from a young age. But it only really came to light when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Since then, there have been many ups and downs, but I am finally receiving the right support and I am getting there – there are definitely less bad days than there used to be!

I have also watched numerous friends slip through the cracks in the mental health system, and I hope that through this role I am able to help even one person to reach out and get the help they deserve.

If you could give someone a piece of advice, what would it be?

Wherever you are at is completely okay! Whether that’s achieving everything you possibly could imagine, surviving each minute as it comes, or anything in between.

What is one self-care tip that you have found helpful?

Allow yourself to set boundaries. Saying no is okay if that’s what you need to do!
