Active Monitoring FAQs
Active Monitoring is a series of weekly sessions over a six-week period. We have a number of ‘pathways’ for you to choose that will guide your progress throughout your sessions. For example, we have a pathway to help you to better manage anxiety and panic attacks. Others pathways include support for menopause, depression, stress, anger, self-esteem, isolation as well as grief and loss.
Your Active Monitoring Practitioner will help you to select the one that is right for you. Our friendly practitioners will discuss the problems and/or challenges you’re facing with you; and will give you information about your symptoms – and what causes them.
Your 1-2-1 sessions will be with an experienced mental health and wellbeing practitioner. The sessions are not counselling but will be a combination of listening, coaching, education and signposting. They will be delivered in a confidential environment (in person, by telephone or online) and will help equip you with the skills you need to help manage your physical and mental wellbeing. We’ll also give you a range of booklets and worksheets to keep, so that you can continue your journey to recovery between the sessions; and afterwards.
Active Monitoring has been developed by Mind and is delivered in Dorset by Dorset Mind.
We are experts in supporting better mental health. Active Monitoring is available to anyone experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems and wellbeing concerns. Research and feedback has proven that it’s an effective programme that empowers people to better manage their mental health. It also creates a significantly improved sense of wellbeing. Please note that Active Monitoring is not a self-referral service. Participants registered at the following GP surgeries can access Active Monitoring through their GP.

Volunteer with us
Without our volunteers we simply couldn’t do what we do. Our volunteers are the backbone of our charity. Dorset Mind volunteers help us deliver our mental health support services across our vast county in a variety of roles across the charity. We offer voluntary positions that suit the times you’re able to commit – and your level of experience.
