Vick is a qualified counsellor and believes counselling can be a life changing opportunity in which she will support you to find, and trust, your own answers. She draws on different modalities to suit the individual and empower them to fulfil their potential. She starts with creating a safe space in which to explore and unravel the layers of life experiences.
Vick has supported a wide variety of people trying to make sense of life for many years. She works to improve their self-awareness and relationships – they have a range of mental health conditions. It was 20 when she first wanted to be a counsellor. “I’m a long way off that age now and I finally began my studies in 2011– it’s never too late to make changes!”
After taking a break, she qualified as a counsellor and is excited to be part of this service with Dorset Mind – “I wish it were available to all humans!”
Vick feels that it is absolutely her vocation. She has loved her varied career teaching and empowering people to improve their mental health (eg addiction, anxiety, depression, eating disorders) through nutrition, cookery, therapeutic gardening and many other things. But she really wanted to work not just in and around that field but to actually counsel people.
She wholeheartedly believes in the potentially life changing ‘alchemy’ that can occur between people where one can trust in the non-judgemental and compassionate relationship that she provides. Within that, clients can explore their present, and if wanted their past, to empower them to find their own truth and realise their potential for a better future. She will be alongside the client – caring about, hearing (and maybe challenging) them on their journey.
Vick also co-organises a wellbeing/yoga festival for a charity – “we reckon it’s the only one of its kind which had both gong baths and punk bands!” She is currently exploring trauma work and equine therapy. The horses enhance and co-facilitate the therapeutic process – she doesn’t counsel the horses!
