I have supported Dorset Mind in a couple of fundraising events and have been aware of the vital work they do for many years. Mental health is something that means a lot to me, and I have lots of friends and ex-partners who have suffered from serious mental health issues. Some have tried to take their own lives and others battle through with determination and courage that I admire greatly. I have seen people at their lowest, the stigma they face and the lack of support when they need it most.
When I started my fundraising challenges the mental health focus was for and is still very much for these people. It has however also helped me to understand my own mental health better in a way that is important for us all to try and do. I now try and talk more openly about my mental health, engage in discussions and listen to others to try and support them. I also try and promote the physical and mental health benefits of running and getting outside something that positively supports my own mental health greatly.
I am incredibly proud to be a Dorset Mind ambassador and hope to be able to continue to support their amazing work aside from just running around countries or parks multiple times. I’m excited to share the benefits of getting active and what started my fundraising journey.
