I’m Lucy and I’m excited to be joining Dorset Mind as a Trainee Placement Counsellor.
I am passionate about wellbeing, mental health and supporting people to regain personal strength and resilience when facing tough times. My journey to becoming a counsellor probably began over 10 years ago when I found myself struggling with my own mental health. I found counselling to be a really beneficial support.
Since then I have worked and volunteered in various health and social care roles including working as group facilitator for one of Dorset Mind’s wellbeing groups. I found it a privilege to listen and support group members through the challenges they were facing. I helped them to build resilience, try out different strategies and learn to believe in themselves again. This, along with my own personal experiences inspired me to train to be a counsellor. I finally began my training in 2019.
I believe counselling or talking therapy can give people a unique opportunity to feel heard and validated, without being judged. They become more in tune with themselves and develop strategies to better cope with everyday life’s struggles, both big and small.
When not working (or in lockdown) I’m at my happiest camping or camper-vanning somewhere beautiful. British weather allowing!
