I started my counselling career journey in 2008. I then had a break to raise my family. Having come back to my studies and training, I am very excited to be working with Dorset Mind.
In my previous job role as a careers adviser, I found that a large volume of my clients needed support. They required guidance and emotional support, rather than just careers advice. I quickly realised that I needed some counselling training to support these clients properly. After speaking with my employer, they agreed to start me on my counselling route many years ago. This is when I realised this is the career I wanted to work in. Counselling is so important to support our mental health.
Talking therapy is vital because it gives a person a safe space for their thoughts, feelings or concerns to be heard and understood. Through self awareness and exploration it can inspire change and improve the quality of life.
Since restarting my counselling career and studies, I have been inspired to write poetry, something I haven’t done since I was a child.
