My name is Alice and I am a young Ambassador because mental illness is a part of my story. I hope that in talking about my experiences and listening to those of others it will be more accepted to talk about mental health. I don’t want others to feel like I have for so long, like I was carrying around secrets about me and my experiences that I couldn’t share.
We all deserve support and access to services when struggling with our mental health in any way, shape or form. While struggling with my mental health I wanted to find places where I felt validated and listened to and am passionate about ensuring others have a safe space where they can be as they are.
I have degree in Sociology and currently work as a Library Assistant which I really enjoy as it provides an essential hub to my local community. I am looking at pursuing further study in psychology and would like to work in a mental health charity such as Dorset Mind in the future.
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and my little house bunny! And I also spend a lot of my time drawing and art journaling which has been invaluable when I have a lot on my mind. So, that would be my one piece of advice – express how you feel, in any way you can. Be it writing it out, drawing, talking it through with someone. The hardest thing about feelings is often we don’t understand them!
