Wellbeing in Mind Support Group – Verwood

Who are we?

Wellbeing in Mind is a peer Support group for anyone aged 18 or over who has or wants to develop positive mental wellbeing. The group’s focus is to educate people about common mental health issues like stress, anxiety and depression, how to spot the signs and symptoms as well as finding helpful ways of coping with and improving them. Each two-hour session can be attended on a drop-in basis and each person is encouraged to participate as much or as little as they would like.

What can you expect from the Wellbeing group?

The group offers peer support and helps to reduce stigma by normalising conversations about mental health and encouraging people to talk about wellbeing challenges or triumphs with others who share similar experiences in an accepting and supportive environment. The educative workshops provide an opportunity to access support and identify helpful and holistic ways of coping and improving mental health.

The group has guidelines to ensure that it’s a safe, non-judgemental, confidential and respectful space for everyone who attends. The group is facilitated by a qualified mental health professional who supports people to process their thoughts, feelings and experiences. Therapy and counselling are not available within the group but details of local counselling services can be provided upon request.

What happens at the Wellbeing group?

The group activities and planned events are identified, discussed, negotiated and agreed in partnership with group members.  Some sessions start with guided-relaxation which is followed by share-time for people to share their experiences and access peer support. Following a short refreshment break (tea and coffee will be provided at 40p per cup) there is an educative workshop exploring topics like;

  • Food and mood,
  • Developing self-compassion
  • Silencing the inner critic
  • What is mindfulness?
  • Challenging negative thinking
  • Building self-esteem.
  • Music and Mental Health
  • Alternative therapies
  • Exercise and neuroplasticity
  • What is mental health?
  • Goal setting
