b-side festival is an artist led bi-annual arts festival that brings new art to unusual locations. Held exclusively on the Isle of Portland at various locations, the festival runs from 10th to 18th September.
A musical world premiere kicks off b-side …
The world premiere of SHAME
will open the festival this year at 6pm on the 10th September. It’s an outdoor musical performance
of work by artist Jordan Mackenzie. Jordan collaborated with two psychoanalysts to interview the London Gay Men’s Chorus
. The interviewees recorded their memories of events that shaped their feelings about their sexuality.
These interviews were given to composers to translate these memories into songs for the Chorus to perform. You can hear the end result, sung by the London Gay Men’s Chorus, at the beautiful setting of West Weares (End of Chesil Beach near Quiddles Café).
Dorset Mind at b-side
will be exhibiting near the outside performance of Shame – which is followed by a disco – from 5pm until 12pm – on 10th September. Our aim is to raise awareness about the stigma and discrimination against the LGBTI community
that can result in mental health issues.
We will also promote our full range of services and LGBTI training courses
5pm to late
Saturday 10th September
West Weares – at the end of Chesil Beach, near Quiddles Café.
The event is FREE.
b-side offers a mixture of free and ticketed events. You can purchase tickets online – find out more about what’s on here.
