Volunteer Adult Befriender- Face to Face and/or Telephone
Main Purpose:
To become part of a successful and growing team of volunteers who befriend individuals who are experiencing mental health problems with a view to:
- Creating a valued relationship
- Helping to improve self-confidence
- Reduce social isolation by supporting clients to access activities in the community
- Identify goals, based on the 5 ways to wellbeing, and working on these with clients
The aim of our Befriending service, which is currently is being provided either via telephone or face-to-face, builds a professional relationship that offers one-to-one support in the community for a minimum of 6 months.
Befrienders help people develop positive mental wellbeing and reduce isolation. They leave people connected with their local community. Having the support of a befriender can also help people to reduce stigma and increase confidence and self-esteem by learning and experiencing new ways of coping and developing positive mental health.
