Posted 3 months ago

Dorset Mind offers an eco-therapy service, The GAP Project; providing tailored support by our trained and experienced staff and volunteers to those with mental health and wellbeing problems. The aim of The GAP Project is to improve the quality of life experienced by participants. We achieve this by supporting participants to build confidence, self- esteem, self- efficacy and resilience. The GAP Project support participants develop positive mental health through meaningful and therapeutic ecotherapy.

The Gap Project is looking for volunteers and service participants to develop and maintain their three allotments which are all based within walking distance of Dorchester.

Main Purpose

The main purpose of the Service Support Volunteer role is to support The GAP Project, which will provide a safe, welcoming non-judgemental wellbeing ecotherapy service. The service aims to support people to develop positive mental health through meaningful and therapeutic ecotherapy.

There will be 2 x 2 hour sessions per week on Tuesdays and Fridays where service users and volunteers will under-take upkeep of the allotment and fruit and vegetable production as well as future planning and creation of an ecotherapy sensory garden.

This role will involve maintaining the plots as well as offering support, encouragement and engagement with service participants undertaking gardening. We ask our volunteers to commit to 4 – 16 hours a month on Tuesdays and Fridays.  We are looking for service support volunteers who are able to offer a commitment of 3-6 hours per week. As well as the day to day running of the project, these volunteers will support the Dorset Mind Project Coordinator with tasks such as providing welcome inductions for participants and creating structured session plans.
