What are your reasons for attending Wellbeing in Mind?

“Initially I attended because I was starting a counselling course (study) at Redlands College and I wanted to see what was available within Verwood for people.  I also joined the blue light challenge at work (police officer) and that led me to look for what Mind did in Dorset.  I went to the website and found out details of all the groups that are available.  I was very surprised to see that there was something in Verwood.”

What has changed or improved for you over the past few months or since coming to the group?

“I first came to the group as I have mentioned above to find out what the group was about.  I was very impressed with the group and to be able to talk about things openly with like minded people in a safe environment.

It was really good to be able to talk to other people who were experiencing similar feelings and learning that you are not the only one.

As I have been studying counselling skills I have come to realise how important it is to look after yourself as well as help others.

I enjoy talking with the group and sharing their experiences.  I also enjoy the exercises that we do which looks at how we can use different things to help us in our day to day lives, eg., relaxation, mindfulness, etc.”

What have you gained since coming to Wellbeing in Mind?

Somewhere safe to talk about things;
A sense of belonging rather than isolation;
Ideas on what I can do for myself to help in different situations.

What are your hopes, goals and areas you want to focus on in the future?

I have just finished my level 2 counselling skills course and will be going on to do level 3 as a trainee counsellor.  I would really like to continue attending the group in Verwood as this will provide me with support on a monthly basis.  I am also really looking forward to learning some more techniques that will help me on a daily basis and being able to share my thoughts and experiences in a safe environment.

What are your reasons for attending Wellbeing in Mind?

“To access support after being diagnosed with a mental health illness in 2015.  Attending the Verwood Mind group has helped me to come to terms with my diagnosis at a time when I felt very frightened, scared and confused and has helped me to accept myself for who I am.  The support and understanding offered by the group facilitator and other group members has helped me through a difficult year, and made me realise I’m not alone.”

What have you gained or has anything changed since coming?

“I have felt more reassured since attending the Wellbeing group knowing that I have the opportunity, if I wish to talk through issues that are affecting my mental health and the chance to learn about different topics and coping skills which can help with managing everyday life better.”

What are your hopes, goals and areas you want to focus on in the future?

“To continue to access support through the Dorset Mind Service to assist with the future challenges of returning to work, raising a family and maintaining good health and wellbeing.”
