There are a range of mental health services offered by the NHS.
If you are experiencing mental health problems the first step is to make an appointment with your GP.
If you are not registered with a GP the NHS Choices website can be used to find GP services.
Steps to Wellbeing is a free NHS service which offers a variety of treatment for people experiencing common mental health problems such as low mood/ depression, anxiety, and stress. Steps to Wellbeing accepts self-referrals by web and telephone for people aged 18 and over. It also provides services for people registered at a Dorset GP surgery.
Specialist (secondary) mental health services
Your GP may refer you to a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) if your mental health problem is more complicated. There are a number of CMHTs across Dorset. CMHTs are made up of people with a range of knowledge and skills that can offer support e.g. psychiatrists, social workers, community psychiatric nurses (CPN), and occupational therapists.
