New year, new mindset, new challenge... 

Join us for Move your Mind 2021!  

Dorset Mind’s brand new ‘Move your Mind’ campaign aims to encourage you to GET ACTIVE for at least 30 minutes a day every day throughout January.

Whilst registering is FREE we recommend an individual fundraising target of £31 – this achievable amount could help us deliver weekly counselling safely for a child in Dorset.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to fundraise, you could donate £1 a day yourself – that’s cheaper than buying a morning coffee, snack or your commute to work.

How can physical activity help my mental health?

We know how January can sometimes be a hard month for many reasons. Getting active regularly can help with: 

  • better sleep – by making you feel more tired at the end of the day
  • happier moods – physical activity releases feel-good hormones that make you feel better in yourself and give you more energy
  • managing stressanxiety or intrusive and racing thoughts – doing something physical releases cortisol which helps us manage stress. Being physically active also gives your brain something to focus on and can be a positive coping strategy for difficult times

Who can sign up?

Sign up as an individual – why not take this challenge on with a friend, your team mates, colleagues or peers? Our Strava Club is designed to motivate, encourage and inspire you to complete your challenge. Track your minutes and discover exciting incentives to keep you motivated through January. This challenge is by no means competitive!

Ways to get active

The best part about Move your Mind is you get to set your own goals to suit YOU and YOUR fitness level. Take on anything from general housework to running 5k. We’ll send you a calendar to help you plan your month of activities, don’t worry if you don’t stick to it, this will help keep you motivated and on track.

Fundraise for us!

Every year we help over 22,000 people in Dorset with their mental health by providing a range of vital support services for adults and young people. Why not use your Move your Mind challenge to help raise funds for us so that we can continue with our mission to help everyone in Dorset  experiencing a mental health problem to get support and respect.

Sponsorship is encouraged and everyone who fundraises will receive a medal

What will you receive from us?

Everyone signing up will receive a digital pack that will include lots of information and guidance about how to get started, exercising safely and kickstart your fundraising. This will include:

  • A guide to setting up your online fundraising page (target £31)
  • Top Tips for getting active, this includes activity ideas along with nutrition, recovery and health & safety tips
  • A calendar to plan your month of activities and record your daily achievements
  • A weekly wellbeing tracker for you to see how your active minutes are affecting your mental health
  • Access to our private Strava club and Facebook community group to share your story, progress and to help encourage other participants
  • A money box to collect extra donations
  • Sponsorship form (we can claim gift aid (an extra 25%) on any cash donations received from UK tax payers)
  • Special incentives

Additionally, Teams, Schools and Businesses can download:

  • A leaderboard to encourage healthy competition
  • Certificates to reward:
    • Best Teamwork
    • Most Minutes Achieved
    • Most Determined

You’ll receive plenty of support and a jam-packed month of FREE online sessions held by local instructors and fitness enthusiasts.

On January 31st everyone who signed up is invited to our virtual Finishers Event. Here you’ll receive a virtual goody bag with information about how to keep going throughout the year. We don’t want you to stop at the end of January – we know that physical activity is so positive for your mental wellbeing.
