A focused Westbourne Rotary breakfast meeting…

Rotary Breakfast MeetingWe were invited to a special breakfast meeting by Westbourne Rotary President Richard Burnett this morning.

In the presence of special guests

Also attending the meeting were the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth, and Rotary Group 2 Area Governor Mike Dwyer. Dorset Police Crime Comissioner, Martyn Underhill, is also a member of Westbourne Rotary.

Dee Swinton, our Income Generation and Marketing Manager gave the Rotary an update on Dorset Mind Your Head’s progress.  Rotary Group 2 consists of 9 Rotary clubs across Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

Group 2 are considering funding our new Project Manager and were keen to find out about how the pilot scheme was progressing.  We have delivered initial surveys, workshops and assemblies to our 3 schools: Corfe Hills, Bournemouth Collegiate School and The Grange.

A surprise at the meeting…

President Richard gave Dee a fantastic donation of £1,782.46.  Westbourne Rotary raised it before Christmas…  Efforts included bag-packing at The Range, Santa’s Grotto in Westbourne and Boscombe, and the Santa Express collection.

Rotary member Pauline Bonnani and her daughter Georgie also presented a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of their company Select Resorts. Pauline made an announcement that Dorset Mind will continue as their charity for 2018 which was a great surprise.

Both donations make a brilliant donation to our Dorset Mind Your Head youth project.

Dorset Mind’s Patron Dr Andy Mayers spoke about the work he does with charities and his campaigning.  Andy is also Patron of Bournemouth Samaritans and Chair of Trustees for Acts Fast.  He spoke very passionately about mental health and how it has influenced his choice of charities to support.  Andy also introduced new charity DorPIP and invited the Rotary to consider them for funding in future.

Westbourne Rotary have shown enthusiastic support for our Youth Services from the beginning, and we’d like to thank them whole heartedly for this.
