Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 has been incredibly active for Dorset Mind, the local mental health charity. Their packed schedule has included a variety of awareness and fundraising events. They’ve worked alongside Dorset Healthcare, South West Trains, Bournemouth University, and other local charities.
Dorset Mind has also helped to raise mental health awareness with three of its charity partners – Siemens (Poole), Poole Bay Rotary Club, and Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown. And now the charity adds another renowned local company to its growing portfolio of sponsors – Select Resorts Properties.
Select Resorts Properties – why the interest in mental health?
Pauline Bonanni, Select Resort’s Managing Director explains the reasons why her company has chosen to support Dorset Mind this year. She said, “I’m a member of Westbourne Rotary Club, and our President’s chosen charity this year is Dorset Mind. Through working with them on various projects, I have become very aware of the current lack of mental health services for young people.“
“Each year our company, Select Resorts Ltd., selects a ‘Charity of the Year’. Unsurprisingly, I suggested to the team that Dorset Mind should be our chosen charity this year. My suggestion was immediately met with 100% support.”
“They all were acutely aware of the need of financial support for local Mental Health Charities. The team all knew somebody who has had or needed help with their mental health.”
“We’re busy thinking of ways in which we can raise funds. The first event is likely to be something physical like the 3-Peaks Challenge. The theory that developing good physical health can help mental health inspires the team. And to mirror their effort, Select Resorts Ltd will double whatever is raised. We look forward to presenting a cheque to Dorset Mind at the end of the year.”
Commenting on this partnership, Dr. Andrew Mayers, Principal Academic at Bournemouth University and Patron for Dorset Mind said, “We’ve put a huge effort into raising mental health awareness this week. To have this brilliant news at the end of it really is the icing on the cake.”
