We were recently presented with a significant donation from the Fordingbridge Firefighters.
They raised a massive £4,000 at their 3rd annual ‘Party in the Park’ at the beginning of June.
Why did we benefit?
The brigade chose to split the money between Mind and their own Firefighters Charity in honour of Connor Johnson, who tragically died earlier this year. And, although Fordingbridge is over the border in Hampshire, we are the closest local Mind to the brigade.
Connor’s father, AJ is Deputy Section Leader at a nearby fire station, and the branches often work together. He discovered that his son had been seeking help from national Mind.
So choosing us seemed the natural thing to do.
AJ and his family are keen to help other young people in his son’s name, and help turn this sad time into something positive. AJ also gave us a donation on behalf of Connor’s friends and family.
The Johnson family have further plans to carry on fundraising in Connor’s name. AJ has a gig planned in Christchurch later this year with his band at the pub Connor worked at, and also a parachute jump!
So watch this space – we will be supporting him.
In the meantime, this gratefully received donation will go towards our Youth Services appeal.
The Fire Fighters Charity
The fire brigade’s own charity provides great support for injured firefighters and their families. They have rehabilitation facilities around the country that provide not only physical but psychological support.
The Fire Fighters Charity supports Mind’s ‘Time To Talk’ campaign, that works to end mental health stigma in the workplace.
It was also very apparent that there is great camaraderie between the crew that helps carry them through tough times.
So thanks once more to Watch Manager Peter White and the crew at Fordingbridge, and a special thanks to AJ Johnson and his wife.
