Beauty pageant and mental health
So, you might wonder what a local mental health charity has to do with a beauty pageant? We all know that the beauty industry can negatively affect mental health, leaving many young girls conscious of their body image.
Romy Simpkins has the answer to this quandary. As our ambassador, Romy is hugely passionate about helping those with mental health problems. She herself overcome an eating disorder in her early teens. And because of her lived experience she now works tirelessly to promote mental health issues. Becoming a beauty queen and organizing event such as this has given Romy incredible confidence in herself – which she is keen to pass on to others.
Romy herself says “Sensational U.K. is the first Charity Pageant of its kind. We aim to support young girls, teenagers and women through their Pageant journey, so that they build self-confidence and make new friends.”
“All profits will go to Dorset Mind. We believe that with the correct information and support we can put an end to the stigma around Mental Health problems.”
